Dressing for your shape in Midlife

have always been a bit lacking in the bust area. Not exactly flat chested, but certainly bustily challenged! I didn’t mind. It meant that clothes fell in the lines they should. I could run without getting black eyes😉. Boys looked at my face rather than my chest! 😁

I remember going on holiday with a friend of mine when I was about 17. We were very daring and decided to go topless. An Ice cream seller came up to us on the beach and asked “would you boys like an ice cream?”! You can imagine how quickly we put our bikini tops back on!!

Even when I had my son, my boobs didn’t grow all that much. Until I reached menopause. Then, oh boy, did they make up for lost time!

Dresses and shirts started to gape at the buttons, T-shirts and jumpers started to “fit where they touched” (as my Mother used to say) and I was spilling out of my underwear!

I went to John Lewis to get fitted for new bras and to my chagrin I had gone from a 34B to a 36FF - How did that happen?!

Why am I telling you this? Well, so many of the lovely ladies I work with have completely changed shape over recent years and feel like I did - a little bit bemused! Where did it come from? How did it happen? And probably most poignantly - how do I dress now?

I spend a lot of time scrolling through websites and watching brands, trying to find clothes that are made for our age group, but aren’t frumpy, old fashioned or just plain boring. A lot of the brands such as Zara, Jigsaw, Hobbs, etc, do produce clothes that can be adapted to a more mature style, but more often than not the clothes are shown on young models and you can tend to think you shouldn’t really be there.

So, I was delighted when I came across Joyce Young’s Casual Chic designs. They are beautifully cut, in fabulous colours, are elegant, stylish and not in ANYWAY frumpy!

What I love about them is the fact that they disguise any "wobbly" bits, without losing their shape and stylishness. They feel modern, but timeless.

So timeless in fact, that I can imagine one of my favourite characters, Carrie Bradshaw (Sex & The City), wearing them when she was young, but also still wearing them now!

But however you style them - classically, dramatically or simply, these styles will be wardrobe winners for years to come and will make you stand out from the crowd for all the right reasons!

My Favourites!!
